What Would Yahushua Do?

These four little words make up the most profound question we should ask ourselves daily. When we encounter questions or decisions of various kinds, we should ask ourselves, “What would Yahushua do?”

Every day we must decide between Truth and error. We must decide if something is good Doctrine, or bad. In our daily walk and practices, indeed in every question we encounter, we should be asking ourselves the question, “What would Yahushua do?”

Notice what we are told in Scripture:

He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked. (1John 2:6)

If we are to become perfected in love, as the Scripture tells us, we must walk as Yahushua walked, in every way. If we are to walk even as He walked, we must ask ourselves this question, in every matter, “What would Yahushua do?”

If we are to walk as He walked, then we should desire to practice the same things He practiced, speak the same words He spoke, and literally be the same as He was, in all areas of our life. Why is this true? The following passages reveal the answer:

“…To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory…” (Colossians 1:27)

“But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.” (Romans 8:11)

“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?” (2Corinthians 13:5)

“My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you…” (Galatians 4:19)

“Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.” (Philippians 1:11)

“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus…” (Philippians 2:5)

“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” (1John 4:4)

The above passages reveal that Messiah actually is living within every Born-Again Believer. As He lives within us, He desires to express the fullness of His Life in us, as the Word of His Testimony.

When Messiah is in us, He gives us a desire to live and walk in the same way He did 2,000 years ago, when He lived in His own body. Let’s see what this means.

Messiah-In-You

If Messiah is in us, then He abides in us, and we in Him. Again, let’s recall the following passage:

“He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.” (1John 2:6)

If Yahushua is abiding in us, John tells us exactly how we would know this — we will walk even as He walked. If Yahushua is abiding in us, then we will be doing what He did, and avoiding what He avoided. But what did Yahushua do?

Here is a short list of things Yahushua did:

The above list is a clear (though brief) account from the study of Scriptures, of things Yahushua actually did. These things are possible for us to observe as well, as we are seeking to ‘walk as he walked.’

We must ask ourselves, “Do we see in this list any of Yahushua’s activities that we are not doing?”

We must also ask ourselves, “Are there some things to avoid, in our walking with Yahuweh?”

We are surrounded daily by religious activities and customs that would ‘press’ on us to observe, that take the place of things Father would have us do. Thus if Yahushua Messiah is living within us, He desires that we would avoid things that Yahushua avoided 2,000 years ago, as easily seen from Scripture. Let’s list some of these.

This list is also a clear observation from the study of Scriptures.

Again we ask ourselves, “Do we see in this list anything Yahushua avoided, that we have not yet begun to avoid?”

Let us remember, that we are ‘believing’ in Yahushua when we become “DO-ers” of Yahushua’s Words. Let’s look at this.

Believing in Yahushua

After looking at the above lists, someone might say, “Well, I believe in Yahushua!”

Fair enough. Do we recall what James tells us about believing?

“Thou believest [‘have faith’] that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.” (James 2:19)

If the devils also believe [have faith], how is our belief or faith different from that of the devils?

The difference is in whether or not we are a “Do-er” of Yahushua’s Words. As James goes on to tell us, the difference can be seen in actions of obedience, which the devils lack!

Now let’s look at Yahushua’s reply:

“But if ye believe not his(Moses’) writings, how shall ye believe my words?” (John 5:47)

Here, Yahushua is telling us that if we do not believe (become a “Do-er” of) Moses’ words, how can we believe (become a “Do-er” of) Yahushua’s words?

The answer is, we can not — because Moses’ Words and Yahushua’s Words are one and the same! It was Yahushua who gave the words to Moses. What irony!

It is for this reason that we see the words of the Disciple whom Yahushua loved, saying this:

“He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” (1John 2:4)

It is important to note that John is writing to those who have already been justified freely by His Grace, through the Redemption that is in Messiah Yahushua (Romans 3:23). The above passage in 1John is expressly written to those who have [already] been justified by Faith, outside of the deeds of the Law [the Torah] (Romans 3:28). It is likewise written to those who, by their on-going Faith, have established the Law (Romans 3:31), as the living Word living within them, in the person of Yahushua Messiah.

We must remember that our Born-Again experience is based not on any works we have done, nor the keeping of any commandments, but only on the Blood-Redemption Messiah has provided for us. Only after we have been Born Again — that is, only after Yahushua has been ‘birthed’ within our inner being, by His Grace — only then can Yahushua begin to live within us, and walk in us, by His Grace, His enablement, to lead us into obedience to His Commandments.

Let’s notice briefly the testimony of the apostle Paul.

The Apostle Paul’s Testimony

Even the apostle Paul spoke in a similar way, exhorting us to imitate him and the other disciples, in our manner of life:

“Be ye followers of me, even as I also am [a follower] of Christ.” (1Corinthians 11:1)

“Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.” (Philippians 3:17)

“For I delight in the law of God after the inward man…” (Romans 7:22)

In the above passages, Paul reveals that we become ‘followers’ of Messiah when we:

We can see from Paul’s words in the above passages that he was a follower of Messiah, that is, one who imitated Messiah in every way. Paul tells us that just as he followed Messiah’s example, in the same way we are to follow Messiah through his (and the other disciples’) example of delighting in the Law [Torah] written on the heart.

It is Messiah in you who writes the Torah internally, on the heart, giving the Believer the desire to walk in obedience to the Torah. We recall that the writing of the Torah internally on the heart — by Messiah living within — is the very essence of the New Covenant, which is promised to all who become grafted-in to Israel by faith in Messiah (Jeremiah 31:31-33; Ezekiel 36:26-27; Romans 11:17-24).

Paul’s whole focus in his ministry was to reveal the many facets of the New Covenant, of “Messiah-in-you” walking in obedience to Torah, with its goal of perfecting of love. There is, however, a disease that will spoil the fruit that Messiah-in-you desires to produce. That is the disease of being carnal.

Notice what Paul said about avoiding this disease of carnality:

“Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh [‘carnal’] cannot please God.” (Romans 8:7-8)

Notice in the above passage in Romans 8:7, Paul tells us the carnal mind is an enemy of Yahuweh, and can not please Him — simply because it not subject to [‘yielded to obedience to’] the Law of Yahuweh.

Most Believers today have been told that they are not subject to the Law of Yahuweh. However, Romans 8:7 would conclude that most ‘Believers’ today are enemies of Yahuweh — simply because of the carnality that results from not being subject to His Law [His eternal Torah—Father’s instruction for His people]!

Most think Yahushua was a nice ‘Gentile’ boy, who went to Sunday-School faithfully every week, and that He practiced the pagan Feasts and Festivals, and that He avoided keeping Sabbath and Passover and the other Feasts of Yahuweh. No? Then why do we, while claiming Yahushua lives-in-us, do these things?

If we are to mature in love [the keeping of His Commandments], we must stop preventing Messiah-in-us from walking in us, in the same way He walked 2,000 years ago, while He was in His own body. We must change OUR thinking to HIS thinking. We must avoid being carnal. We must become like Paul and the other disciples, and yes, even like Messiah Himself.

Let us endeavour to ask ourselves the question, “What would the apostle Paul do?”

Let us also ask the question, “What would Yahushua’s disciples do?”

And for those who hope to overcome, and to know Him, we must ask ourselves the final question, concerning all things —

“What Would Yahushua Do?”
